Over the years, as yoga came into the spotlight and became a huge part of pop culture, it started getting recognized as a form of exercise involving hyper flexibility and twisty, pretzel postures. The truth cannot be further away than this.
Yoga has so many layers to it and works deep into the human body and mind. As Rolf Gates says, "Yoga is not a work out but a work in!"
The success of Yoga does not lie in the ability to perform postures but in how it positively changes our way of life and our relationships. Sharing some of the ways in which Yoga has transformed my life and turned me into a true-blue yoga girl for life:
1. I have become more body positive
Practicing yoga has chipped away years of body image issues and conditioning for me. I became more accepting of my body and confident in the way I am.
2. I now focus on holistic wellness
Instead of mindlessly working towards what the world sees as "beautiful", I started to work towards a healthy, energetic body. Wellness took precedence and I became a better caretaker of my body.
3. I have noticed an increase in my stamina
I felt more connected to nature, its energy sources and all the forms of nourishment it offers. It became easier for me to move towards a healthier lifestyle and my energy levels rose drastically as my body clock became more aligned with nature's clock.
4. I am happier and more forgiving
I have become a much more patient person and accepting of other people around me. As I got deeper into the practice, the itch to judge others reduced dramatically and my overall personality became significantly more positive.
