It’s 2022 and yoga has so many different styles, forms, lineages and variations. One of the questions I get asked often is, what form of yoga do I teach, practice and why? I have been practicing Hatha yoga under the Sivananda lineage.
What is Hatha Yoga?
The Sivananda Lineage
Some of the reasons why this form and lineage stuck with me:
1. A truly wholesome practice: It has a balance of asana, pranayama, relaxation, meditation and lifestyle teachings- all aspects of yoga (not just asanas)
2. Grounding: During these times of fast paced city life, daily stressors and sedentary work/ lifestyle, it ensures a grounding of the physical body and more importantly of the racing mind.
3. Control of Breath: As it is a relatively slower practice, it is more effective to control the breath and gear the body into a relaxation mode.
4. A very systemic practice of yoga: The Sivananda school introduces the asanas and pranayamas in a structured way to practice regularly with fast and steady results.
Do you want to learn this practice of Yoga in the comforts of your own home? I am pleased to announce that I'm introducing a small online group yoga batch and anyone can join it!
