How Ayurveda supports us post 60

A simple guide for seniors

ree

As we grow older, the body naturally changes. One of the shifts that happens after the age of 60 is a rise in the air-like qualities in the body. Things like dryness, lightness, and irregularity. Ayurveda- The science of longevity shares that this is normal, but it can lead to familiar experiences:

  • Stiff or aching joints

  • Light or disturbed sleep

  • Sudden drops in energy

  • Feeling cold easily

  • More bloating or gas

  • Worrying or overthinking

  • Difficulty staying grounded

Ayurveda sees these not as “problems,” but as signs that the body needs more warmth, steadiness, and nourishment.

Simple Ways to Stay Balanced

Ayurveda is based on one clear idea: When something becomes too “airy,” we support it with opposites- warmth, moisture, and stability.

Here’s what that looks like in daily life:

1. Eat warm, cooked meals

Soups, stews, porridges, herbal teas. Avoid too much cold food, raw salads, crackers, or iced drinks.

2. Keep the body warm

Warm showers, warm clothing, warm water through the day.

3. Choose slow, steady movement

Gentle yoga, tai chi, qigong, mindful walking.Avoid fast or high-intensity workouts.

4. Stick to a simple routine

Regular mealtimes, regular sleep times, a gentle bedtime ritual.

5. Support calmness

Slow breathing, meditation, gratitude, journaling.

Why This Matters

With small, thoughtful changes, seniors often feel:

  • better joint comfort

  • steadier energy

  • improved digestion

  • calmer mind

  • deeper sleep

  • more confidence in movement

Ayurveda doesn’t ask you to change everything, but just to support the body as it changes :)
